Why You Feel Off on Mondays (And 5 Simple Ways to Support Your Body)
Ever wake up on a Monday feeling off—even after a decent night’s sleep?
You’re foggy, a little tense, your energy is low… and somehow your coffee just isn’t doing what it’s supposed to.
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and it’s not a motivation problem.
It’s often your body asking for a little more support, not a complete reset.
Some Mondays just feel… off.
You wake up a little foggy. Your jaw feels tight (hello, overnight stress clenching), your energy is low, and somehow your coffee isn’t quite doing what it promised.
Your body feels a step behind—digestion is slow to start, your shoulders are tight, and everything feels a little heavier than usual.
And what do we tend to do?
Try to fix everything before 9am.
New routine. More water. Earlier bedtime. Life overhaul. Let’s go. 😅
But here’s the thing:
Your body doesn’t need a complete reset on a Monday morning.
It usually responds much better to small, simple shifts—the kind that support you instead of overwhelm you.
If your Mondays sometimes feel like this, here are a few gentle ways to ease into your week.
1. Give Yourself a Few Minutes Before Reaching for Your Phone
Before scrolling through texts or emails, give yourself just 2-8 minutes.
Let your body wake up before the world gets your attention.
Notice how you feel:
Are you breathing through your nose or your mouth?
Do your shoulders feel tight?
Are you still half asleep?
You don’t need to fix anything—just notice.
That small pause can make your morning feel a lot less rushed.
2. Stretch Your Jaw While Brushing Your Teeth
This one sounds a little random, but stay with me.
A lot of us hold tension in our jaw overnight—even if we don’t realize it. While brushing your teeth, gently open your mouth a little wider than usual for a few seconds.
You might feel a release around your jaw, ears, or neck.
It’s a tiny shift, but it can stop that tension from following you into the rest of your day.
3. Start With Warmth Before Coffee
I know… this one might be controversial. ☕️
But if your body already feels a bit wired or tired, jumping straight into caffeine can sometimes make things feel more jittery than energized.
Instead, start with something warm:
a cup of hot water, herbal tea, broth, or even just holding a warm mug in your hands.
Let your system settle first… then bring in the tea.
(Your tea will still be there. I promise.)
4. Pause Between Tasks
If your day starts to feel scattered, it might not be your schedule—it might just be your nervous system trying to keep up.
Between tasks, take 10–15 seconds to look at something real:
a tree outside, the light in the room, even just the space around you.
It helps your body “land” before moving on.
Simple, but surprisingly effective.
5. Give Your Day a Clear Ending
If Monday felt a bit off, you don’t need to fix it by nighttime.
You just need to close it out.
Something simple like:
applying lotion slowly to your arms
letting warm water run over your hands or feet
sitting with a warm heating pad, maybe add a few drops of lavender esential oil
These small moments help your body register that the day is done.
No big routine required.
The Bigger Picture
Not every Monday is going to feel amazing.
And that doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.
The goal isn’t to control how the day feels—it’s to support your body through it.
Because more often than not, it’s the small, consistent shifts that make the biggest difference.
Not the big overhauls.
