Why Going for a Simple Walk Feels Easy on Vacation… and So Hard at Home
I just got back from vacation, and there’s something I noticed right away.
Every single day, I went for a walk.
Not a workout.
Not a “close your rings” kind of walk.
Just… a walk.
This is something I’ve been sharing more of in my day-to-day lately too… you can always come follow along here 👉 Over on Instagram
Fresh air, slower pace, no pressure.
And honestly? I looked forward to it.
But now I’m home, back into real life… and suddenly that same simple habit feels weirdly hard to do.
Isn’t that funny?
Because nothing actually changed about the walk itself.
Same shoes.
Same body.
Just a different view.
So why does it feel so different?
It’s not the walk… it’s the feeling around it
On vacation, the walk feels like a break.
At home, it quietly turns into a task.
And the moment something feels like it belongs on the to-do list, our brain goes:
“I’ll get to it later.”
But later doesn’t always come.
I see this all the time—not just with walking, but with anything we know is good for us.
Drinking more water.
Getting to bed earlier.
Moving our body.
We start with good intentions… and then we accidentally turn it into:
✔️ Be healthy
✔️ Do the thing
✔️ Stay on track
And suddenly it feels heavy instead of supportive, and at some point I start to realize something
I used to think I needed more discipline…
Now I realize I just needed things to feel easier.
Why it feels easier on vacation
When you’re away, you’re not trying to optimize everything.
You’re not rushing from one thing to the next.
You’re not thinking about what you “should” be doing next.
You’re just… in the moment.
And that’s what makes the walk feel easy.
It’s not structured.
It’s not forced.
It’s not another thing to accomplish.
It’s just part of your day.
The small shift that changes everything
What if your walk didn’t live on your to-do list?
What if it wasn’t:
“Go for a walk ✔️”
But instead:
“This is my 10-minute escape from everything else.”
No pace to hit.
No step count.
No pressure to make it “count.”
Just stepping outside, getting some fresh air, and letting your body move because it feels good.
Because the habits that stick…
They’re not the ones we force.
They’re the ones that feel easy enough to come back to.
So if you’ve been struggling to “get back into it,” this is your reminder:
It doesn’t need to be perfect.
It doesn’t need to be long.
It doesn’t even need to be consistent (yet).
It just needs to feel doable.
Put the shoes on.
Step outside.
And leave the checklist at the door.
That’s where it starts.
If this is something you’ve been struggling with too, this is exactly the kind of thing I’m working on right now—simple habits that help you feel a little more back on track without the pressure.
I’ll be sharing more soon 🤍
